Every crossbody spec sheet says adjustable and almost none of them says what to. The number that matters takes two minutes to work out.

What drop means

It is the vertical distance from the top of the shoulder to the top of the bag.

It is not half the strap length, because the strap runs diagonally across the body.

How to measure it without a sample

Hang a tape from the top of the shoulder and mark where you want the bag to sit.

For most adults, hip height is roughly 22 to 24 inches of drop.

Why the range matters more than the maximum

A strap that adjusts 40 to 55 inches serves a narrower band of people than it sounds.

Ask for the drop range at the shortest and longest settings, on a stated body size.

When to build two lengths instead

If your audience spans a wide height range, two strap options beat one long one.

It costs less than a return rate, and it is a decision to make before the sample.
